The Anglotic Project

The Anglotic Project is no longer receiving funding from the UVEG but its members are still active and new pages are still being added to our blog. Below is a potted history of some of the work that we have done. I would like to thank all those who have participated in the project for their hard work and enthusiasm.

Dr. Barry Pennock-Speck
Coordinator

“Anglotic: Creation of teaching materials and learning objects in English Language and Linguistics” (“Anglotic: Elaboración de materiales docentes y objetos de aprendizaje de lengua y lingüística inglesa 2”) was the fourth Anglotic project approved by the Universitat de València.  With the third project came the official recognition of our group as a “Consolidated Innovation Group” (Grupo de Innovación Docente) by our university’s Educational Innovation Unit (Unitat d’Innovació Educativa de la Universitat de València).

The present project is the continuation of three previous ICT projects -each lasting one year. The first was called “Design and creation of multimedia materials and exploitation of blended learning through the Aulavirtual learning platform” (Diseño y creación de materiales multimedia y profundización en la enseñanza semipresencial a través de la plataforma Aula Virtual), the second, “Design and creation of multimedia materials and exploitation of blended learning through the Aulavirtual learning platform and Internet” (Diseño y creación de materiales multimedia y profundización en la enseñanza semipresencial a través de la plataforma Aula Virtual e Internet) and the third “Anglotic: Creation of teaching materials and learning objects in English Language and Linguistics” (“Anglotic: Elaboración de materiales docentes y objetos de aprendizaje de lengua y lingüística inglesa”) was the predecessor of our present project. As you can see the name of the second project is slightly different from the second as we added “internet” because of the need to use not only our own learning platform, Aulavirtual but other web-based technologies.

In the months to come we will continue to focus on the creation of discipline-specific teaching materials and learning objects that take into account not only the need for students to learn/acquire content but also competences. Our rationale for creating our own materials is that there is a real need to fill gaps left by text books and other written material.

Although the onus in this project is on creating materials, this does not mean that we will abandon our efforts to promote blended learning through diverse methodologies associated with new technologies which was the focus of the previous two projects. These are also absolutely necessary in order to realize the pedagogical potential of ICT.

The lecturers in our group are from the English Language and Linguistics Unit in the English and German Department (Departament de Filologia Anglesa i Alemnya) and/or lecturers in the Inter-university Institute of Applied Modern Languages of the Valencian Community (Instituto Interuniversitario de Lenguas Modernas Aplicadas de la Comunidad Valenciana).
